Kiama Downs is a coastal town, sitting on the Minnamurra River in the Illawarra region of New South Wales.

Area NBN Deployment

A southern region of New South Wales, Illawarra covers the cities of Wollongong and Shellharbour, and contains Lake Illawarra.

Two of the towns in the Illawarra region, Kiama Downs and Minnamurra, form one of the five mainland trial sites for the National Broadband Network.

Kiama Downs NBN Deployment

The government-owned NBN Co will roll-out and operate fibre to 2600 premises in the towns of Kiama Downs and Minnamurra as one of the five mainland trial sites for the National Broadband Network.

NBN Co has contracted seven construction companies to create design blueprints for the construction of these sites. Construction began in July 2010 with the first services expected to go live in the first quarter of 2011.

On 8 July 2010, NBN Co announced that the Minnamurra/Kiama Downs area would be expanded to a further 3,000 properties as part of the second release sites. Construction is set to begin in the second quarter of 2011.
