Alteon lifts local growth via channel

Internet infrastructure provider, Alteon Web Systems is continuing to grow rapidly in Australia, increasing its employee numbers and reseller channel.

The organisation, which only set up shop in Australia last November, is expecting to have up to seven staff on board by the end of the quarter and has moved full-steam ahead with its channel strategy, David Elloitt, Alteon Australia and New Zealand country manager, said.

"(The business) is growing at lightning pace," he said.

The company this week released Web Os 8.0, the next version of its traffic control software, designed to provide bandwidth management for data and hosting centres.

According to Elliott, the web switching product should further drive the company's growth locally. "There is a crying need for high availability and speed in web (companies)," he said.

Elloitt said local internet and data centres, including existing customers Free Online, Telstra Big Pond, Cable & Wireless Optus, Dingo Blue and Buy.com, would benefit from the new software.

In other news, Elloitt said Alteon had engaged new resellers recently. "We do no direct selling. We are a channel-based organisation. There is a lot more to web infrastructure . . . we need the integration skills of people like ComTech," he said.

Alteon's local reseller channel currently comprises LidCam Technologies, ComTech, FrontLine Systems and worldwide partner Lucent Technologies.
