Cable & Wireless Optus has gained 315,000 new digital customers between October and December, which represents 42 per cent of all new mobile users.

The telco now has a 32.5 per cent stake in the mobile market, an increase of 0.8 per cent since the previous quarter.

For the same quarter, Telstra lost 1.3 per cent of its market share and Vodafone gained 0.5.

Optus' managing director for mobile, Paul O'Sullivan, said the increase in the company's market share was due to various pricing initiatives including $0 effective access, 'Yes' Weekend and 'Yes' Time.

By the end of this financial year, C&W Optus will have spent $230 million building 500 base stations, and plans to spend $350 million building 700 base stations next financial year.

Optus now has over 2.4 million customers.
