Digital Realty to build new Deer Park data centre

Design and planning work underway for third data centre in Melbourne’s west

Digital Realty will spend up to US$68 million to establish a new data centre in Melbourne’s west, adjacent to its existing Deer Park facilities.

Early design work on the 8000 square metre data centre is underway.

Digital Realty has two Deer Park data centres. One is operated by the company solely for NAB. The bank completed its migration to the centre in FY15.

“This investment by Digital Realty strengthens Victoria’s growing reputation as a leader in data security and cyber security excellence,” Victoria’s minister for small business, innovation and trade, Philip Dalidakis, said in a statement.

The government expects work on the data centre to create up to 450 construction jobs and employ 35 people in an ongoing basis.

“This project will add tremendous value to both new and existing clients, and strengthens our continued investment in Australia and especially Victoria,” said Digital Realty’s APAC managing director, Edward Higase.

“The demand for data centre space will only continue to grow as more companies move towards the cloud and look to outsource IT infrastructure.”
