BOSTON (04/03/2000) - Cisco Systems Inc. today introduced a DSL (digital subscriber line) router designed to help service providers and resellers provide fast Internet access for small businesses and home offices.
The Cisco 827 ADSL (asynchronous digital subscriber line) router can deliver features ranging from differentiated classes of service to voice over DSL, according to a statement from Cisco. For example, with differentiated classes of service, customers can prioritize bandwidth by signing on for premium, standard or best-effort service classes by specific application or user.
For voice applications, a voice-enabled version of the Cisco 827 ADSL router can deliver toll-qualityvoice over DSL, which lets businesses consolidate data access and long-distance costs by sending their voice traffic over the Internet, Cisco said. In its current configuration, the router supports the H323 standard, and future software enhancements will provide support for Voice over ATM (VoATM).
The 827 ADSL router will be available in a data model and a voice model beginning April 24, Cisco said. Pricing for the data model, called the 827 ADSL router, begins at US$649, and the voice model, the 827-4V, is priced at $999.
