IBM Boosts Data Management Strategy with DB2 7

BOSTON (04/11/2000) - IBM Corp. today announced DB2 Universal Database Version 7, which is designed to fuel business-to-business over the Internet.

DB2 Universal Database Version 7, which is available for Unix, Linux and Microsoft Corp.'s Windows operating systems, is available with a pricing structure that is a first for IBM, according to a statement from the company.

Under the terms of the agreement, application service providers (ASPs) can purchase DB2 Universal Database for a "minimal" investment, which IBM did not specify, and then give IBM a percentage of the revenue the ASPs receive from their customers, according to IBM's statement.

IBM will discuss DB2 Universal Database Version 7 -- and possibly, what a report on the Financial Times' Internet site describes as Big Blue's intention to announce today a commitment to spend US$1 billion over the next four years to develop a new database for business-to-business e-commerce -- at a conference call at 12:00 EST today. The call can be accessed by dialing 1-888-810-3142; the international number was not immediately available. Janet Perna, general manager, IBM Data Management Solutions, will be on the call, according to IBM.

IBM, in Armonk, New York, can be reached at +1-914-499-1900 or at http://www.ibm.com/.
