LONDON (04/17/2000) - German system software vendor Software AG has opened a wholly owned U.S. subsidiary, Software AG Inc., the company announced today.
The new U.S. branch, based in Walnut Creek, California, will focus on marketing the company's XML (Extensible Markup Language) technology products -- including its XML information server, Tamino -- to other U.S. companies, Software AG said in a statement.
Dr. Helmut Wilke, will serve as Software AG Inc.'s president and chief executive officer, the company said.
This is the second U.S. subsidiary to be opened by Software AG. Software AG Systems Inc., now owned by Saga Software Inc., changed its name to Saga Systems Inc. in May of last year to prevent being confused with its former parent company. [See "Software AG in U.S. Changes Name to Saga," May 24, 1999.]"(Software AG Systems Inc.) was set free in April, 1997 and sold to an investor group. Saga is still our main distributor in the United States," said Rainer Glapp, marketing manager for Software AG.
Saga has rights to sell Software AG's older products, such as its middleware, to its U.S. installed base, but Software AG's newer e-business products will be sold through the new Walnut Creek subsidiary, or through partnerships [See, "Software AG Buys Software Unit, Opens U.S. Offices," Nov. 24].
