Yet another telecommunications carrier has commenced trials of WAP applications.
With Optus and Telstra trials already under way, Vodafone commenced its WAP (wireless application protocol) trial this week with plans to launch commercially in early 2000.
Vodafone's initial WAP product, WAP 1.1, was developed in conjunction with Ericsson and will allow mobile phone users access to email and limited electronic news services.
Vodafone has also partnered with the Commonwealth Bank to provide its first mobile phone banking service, MobileBank.
Telstra and Westpac announced a similar partnership on Monday.
Both partnerships will allow mobile phone users to pay bills, transfer funds and read account balances remotely.
