CSC joins Optus in wireless rush

CSC has teamed up with Cable & Wireless Optus, alongside IBM and Nokia, to deliver the next level of mobile data services to business, education and government customers.

It seems that Optus will join the market scramble to take the corporate systems to the mobile environment with specific focus on WAP and GPRS technologies.

"Earlier this year, we launched Australia's first operational GPRS network," said Paul O'Sullivan, managing director of C&W Optus mobile.

"Now we are building customised solutions so that systems, from your corporate e-mail through to your corporate intranet, can be readily accessed by a mobile device for convenience and portability. It will revolutionise the way people work."

For CSC, the deal represents another opportunity to expand its range of offerings and customer types.

"This agreement will enable CSC to provide customers with a range of cost effective and new technologies, solutions and improved telecommunications services," George Bell, CSC's local CEO, said.

Optus and Nokia plan to launch a data incubator centre, which will develop data business applications specifically for WAP, GPRS and other new mobile technologies.
