Unisys West gets Justice on its side

The scales of justice have tipped in favour of a cooperative approach to outsourcing, following Unisys West's winning a Western Australian Ministry of Justice contract.

Formed in August as the result of a joint venture between Unisys Australia and BankWest, Unisys West on Friday announced a contract to provide the Western Australian Ministry of Justice with applications maintenance, enhancement and development, and other consulting services. It will support the operations and administration of courts within Western Australia.

Terms of the outsourcing deal cover Court Services, Offender Management, Public Trust Office, Registrar of Births, Deaths & Marriages, the Crown Solicitors Office, Office of the Public Advocate, Parliamentary Counsel's Office throughout Western Australia.

The contract covers four years of operations with the option to extend for a further two years.

According to Murray Rosa, Unisys West's business development general manager, the success is touting the win as a tribute the collaborative approach to outsourcing operations.

Rosa said the contract will provide the company with the critical mass to bid for other state government outsourcing contracts. He also said the win will help them break the outsourcing monopoly created when rival outsourcer CSC acquired the Australian operations of GE Capital Information Solutions (GECITS).

"Until Unisys West was created there, CSC had been the only company big enough to bid for government jobs in Western Australia," Rosa said. "At least we will provide some competition."
