Intermedia picks up Retravision deal

Queensland distributor Intermedia has convinced retail giant Retravision to continue to market white box PCs.

Intermedia managing director Ray Shaw said that the retailer was wary of continuing with locally-produced white box models after the recent collapse of its former supplier Toowoomba-based distributor and OEM QLD IT.

According to Shaw Retravision has agreed to stock the Aopen (Acer Open), having been convinced of the benefits of scaleable computers.

"It is often difficult for large retailers to select suppliers," Shaw said. "They need to rely on their partner's staying power, because any change in their product line requires them to retrain their staff."

Shaw said that the Retravision deal would lead to an expansion of Intermedia's OEM operations, including the appointment of extra staff.

"We already have the administration infrastructure in place. [But] we will have to ramp up our manufacturing staff," Shaw said.

Although exact numbers of PCs involved in the deal are unknown, Intermedia-produced Aopen PCs will be supplied to Retravision stores throughout Queensland and northern New South Wales.
