Medibank taps Sportsbet exec for CIO role

John Goodall replaces Sarah Harland, who left the health insurer for Suncorp

Sportsbet’s GM infrastructure and enterprise technology, John Goodall, will join Medibank Private at the end of November to fill the vacant CIO role at the health insurer.

Goodall will have the title executive general manager technology and operations. He replaces Sarah Harland who earlier this year left Medibank after a short stint for a CIO position at Suncorp.

Prior to Sportsbet, Goodall was CIO at GE Capital Australia and New Zealand for over two and a half years, as part of a variety of roles held over two decades at the company.

“I am pleased to have appointed an operational and technical executive with John’s experience,” Medibank CEO Craig Drummond said in a statement.

Medibank said the CIO would have a focus on the health insurer’s core platforms, including finishing the rollout of Project DelPHI.

In its full year results, released last week, Medibank said that Project DelPHI would be key to improving customer perceptions of the health insurer, as it moves to bed down the system in FY17 after data-migration woes earlier this year.

Project DelPHI has involved replacing the health insurer’s core policy and customer relationship management system and comprised the key part of a broad IT renewal program at Medibank.

It had a rocky debut this year when data migration delayed issuing customers with their annual tax statements.
