Hydro Tasmania extends IT services partnership

Signs with CGI for another two years

Hydro Tasmania has extended its IT services contract with CGI for another two years.

The two firms have worked together for 15 years.

CGI will continue to provide infrastructure and network services, end user computing, application and database services. The vendor will also support Hydro Tasmania’s national energy market application, a 24/7 system which allows the utilities firm to trade energy across most states in Australia.

According to Hydro Tasmania CIO Luke Stow, Tasmania has the advantage of being the nation’s “renewable energy powerhouse.”

“It is important for us to manage risks and improve efficiencies in the highly competitive national electricity market, given the current challenges facing the industry across the country. To date, our partnership with CGI has enabled us to focus on our core business and positions us well for leaner financial times ahead,” he said.

Hydro Tasmania is owned by the state government and currently employs more than 1100 people.
