AARNet, AusCERT team up to offer IT security services

Firms will provide research, education sector with range of IT, network security support services

The Academic and Research Network (AARNet) and AusCERT have begun offering members in the research and education sector a range of discounted networking, consulting and cyber security services.

The two organisations will collaborate to provide security testing and remediation services for IT staff.

“This is offering universities access to a broader suite of discounted services such as expertise. Rather than been in the hands of the customer to pick and choose what they get, this is about giving them a life cycle for managing security or dealing with security issues,” said AARNet director of enterprise services James Sankar.

“Our goal is to enable the innovation pipeline for research and education by continuously developing solutions for securing access to cloud and managed services.”

Sankar added that the partnership came about as the two organisations had different strengths.

“We could see there were gaps that customers had in their experiences with having to deal with these [security] issues. There is a natural churn with staffing and changes in technology.”

An added bonus is that most of AARNet’s education members are also members of AusCERT, he said.
