Legere has established a reputation as a rabble-rouser with a NSFW tongue and a knack for tweaking T-Mobile's competitors such as AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, the latter of which T-Mobile is challenging in customer base size (T-Mobile said in October that it has added 10 million customers over the past 6 quarters, and 2.3 million of them in Q3). Legere made headlines at the big CES event in Las Vegas this year by delivering a profanity-laced speech and by getting tossed from an AT&T party.

Earlier this month T-Mobile announced a new family plan with unlimited talk, text and 4G LTE data that starts at two lines for $100, with additional lines for $40 apiece. Earlier this fall, just after Apple introduced iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, T-Mobile introduced a free WiFi calling and texting for all new smartphones on its Simple Choice plan.

Already this week, T-Mobile announced that its Wideband LTE network (100Mbps+) is live in New York City.
