Alleged Queensland hacker charged with stealing $110K worth of Bitcoins

21-year-old man was arrested back in March on alleged hacking offences

A 21-year-old man who was alleged to have hacked a United States-based online gaming developer’s computer network back in March 2014 has now been charged with allegedly stealing $110,000 worth of Bitcoin digital currency during the hack.

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Cyber and Identity Crime Group tracked the man down to an address in Hervey Bay on June 24.

According to QPS, he allegedly obtained the Bitcoins during his hack of the US online gaming company. The Bitcoins are now considered proceeds of crime by the QPS.

The man was charged with tainted property and breach of bail offences and will appear in the Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on 24 July 2014.

In March, the man was arrested in Poona, Queensland by the Queensland Police Fraud and Cyber Crime Group after it was alleged he hacked the US company’s computer network and accessed databases.

The man is said to be responsible for hacking the company’s Twitter account and posting screenshots of the data he took from the network.

In addition, the man is alleged to have established a website offering a paid service that allowed people to search the company’s player database.
