Digital Post Australia will cease operating over the coming weeks due to lack of demand from consumers and businesses for its electronic post service.
The organisation has posted the following statement on its website: “All of us at Digital Post Australia think digital postboxes are a great idea, but without enough senders supporting this channel, our service is just not sustainable at this point in time. As a result, the service will be closed in the coming weeks.”
Digital Post Australia switched on services in November 2012. The organisation was originally a joint venture between Computershare and Fuji Xerox Document Management Solutions.
Fuji Xerox sold its 40 per cent stake in the company to Computershare in December 2012.
Digital Post Australia was battling with competitor, Australia Post’s Digital Mailbox to attract people to its services.
Both companies were embroiled in a legal wrangle over recent years, which culminated in the Federal Court dismissing an appeal by Australia Post that Digital Post Australia infringed on its trade mark.
Digital Post Australia had earlier successfully defended Australia Post’s allegations of trade mark infringement, misleading and deceptive conduct, and passing off.
