Global One to offer IP VPN service

Global One has joined the throng of service providers offering Internet Protocol (IP) virtual private networks (VPNs) to corporate customers.

A joint venture between Deutsche Telekom, France Telecom, and Sprint, Global One has been a provider of VPN services based on frame relay and ATM.

Now it plans to add IP VPN services, based on Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) technology from Cisco, in 30 countries by the end of the year.

MPLS will enable differentiated packet handling on the basis of traffic type, source and destination characteristics, and application type.

Global One is currently beta testing its IP VPN service with customers. The service is aimed at multinational corporations, including both new and existing Global One clients.

In Australia, the company will target the top 100 listed companies, as well as other organisations with global reach, said company officials, adding that the IP VPN service will also enable Global One to penetrate the middle market space to a greater extent than its frame relay products have allowed.

The offering includes service-level agreements covering delivery time, network availability, and repair times.
