Secure system boosts bottom line

GlobalPoint Systems has vastly improved its ability to provide vertical solution products to its customers and also protect its mission-critical data by deploying a secure data exchange (SDE) messaging platform.

The North Sydney-based e-business solutions company develops transaction solutions and services, such as direct debit transactions for core markets like the real estate industry - helping them with backend processing of rate payments for example, and also the financial services and IT&T sectors. Its customers include CommSecure and SecurePay as well as banks, insurance firms, telcos and IT companies.

Since implementing the SDE platform earlier this year - which is based on eFund's Webpay technology - GlobalPoint Systems is providing a secure transaction engine that processes credit and debit payments through the Web, mobile and call centres, and securely transmits sensitive documents like contracts, leases and mortgage documents.

GlobalPoint Systems' executive director Adrian Roche said the Webpay platform has enabled his company to implement a broad range of highly secure solutions in much less time and cost needed to build separate systems with similar functionality.

SDE is a Web-based messaging platform based on industry standards such as XLM and Java. SDE enables real time transfer of batch transactions and data over the Internet, according to eFunds. SDE can be modified easily and integrates seamlessly with back-end legacy systems.

Roche said the platform has given the company a competitive advantage by offering wider processing functionality, with the banking sector one example.

"We take banks' transactions as data and some of that data has sensitive commercial details, but now we can move that data securely for clients," he said.

"Some customers don't understand technology. They simply want help in retaining and growing their customer base and we deploy a software app as a service to enable that need."

SDE has an open architecture making it a straightforward solution and cutting out the need for numerous software engineers, Roche said. One of the company's customers, Blundstone, requested the solution within its own organisation, to process financial transactions and the company was able to go live in one day.

"The speed at which the solution can be deployed is what appeals to our own customers. They don't need to get involved with the implementation," Roche said.

He estimates the SDE platform has helped drive down operational costs by 25 per cent this year. "As the business grows, so does the money we make from processing transactions. Our transaction volume has grown 3000 per cent in the last 18 months and our profitability is up dramatically this year," he said.
