Samsung confirms new Galaxy Tab 3 tablets will launch in Australia

Samsung will release three new Galaxy Tab 3 Android tablets in Australia "later this year"

Samsung will release three new Galaxy Tab 3 Android tablets in Australia "later this year", the company has confirmed.

The Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch and the Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 are two new low-end Android tablets that were announced globally overnight.

The products follow the announcement of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 earlier this year and means Samsung has 7in, 8in and 10.1in Android tablets in the low-end Galaxy Tab range.

Following the global announcement, Samsung Australia confirmed in a media statement that it plans to release the Galaxy Tab 3 range Down Under "later this year."

"Samsung Electronics Australia can confirm that the Galaxy Tab 3 range will be launching in Australia later this year. We will share more information around the availability of this exciting new range in the coming weeks."

Both new Galaxy Tab 3 devices are expected to be priced competitively.

The new tablets both use dual-core processors and will support LTE networks. They will work on Australian 1800MHz 4G networks used by Telstra, Optus and in the near future, Vodafone.

Samsung also confirmed there will be Wi-Fi only models available for both devices.

The Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch has 1280x800 screen, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a 1.3-megapixel front camera.

It will come with either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory and has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor.

The larger Galaxy Tab 3 10.1 has the same resolution screen as the Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch but includes a slightly faster 1.6GHz dual-core processor. However, it only has a 3-megapixel rear-facing camera.

Both models feature a microSD card slot for memory expansion and run the latest version of Google's Android operating system, Jelly Bean 4.2.
