Vodafone reports data outage in six states: Updated

Mobile network experience data outages from 9:12 a.m.

Data outages plagued the Vodafone mobile network in many states across Australia on Tuesday morning.

From 9:12 a.m., Vodafone customers experienced “issues accessing 3G data services” in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania, according to Vodafone’s network status page. At the same time, customers experienced “issues accessing 2G data services” in the Northern Territory and South Australia.

The Vodafone website showed no outages in the Australian Capital Territory or Western Australia.

Melbourne users took to Whirlpool to complain about the data outage. Users still reported problems as of 11:30 a.m.

“I am not getting any 3G connection at all in the Melbourne CBD, and just had a friend call from North Carlton with the same problem,” Whirlpool user JohnShadow said at 10:10 a.m. “It dropped out at 9:15am while coming in on the tram and has not been back up since. Phone calls are OK, but there is no 3G connection and so it is a data problem only.”

Vodafone customers in our Sydney office reported no problems accessing data.

Story updated at 12:30 a.m. with comment by Vodafone:
"We experienced an issue with one of our data routers on our core network at approximately 9.12 a.m. this morning," a Vodafone spokesman said.

"The fault was quickly rectified, however, many customers may have experienced slow data throughput until approximately 9.50am, when all 3G services (with the exception of some areas of regional NSW) returned to normal. We rectified the fault that was affecting services to some areas of regional NSW just after 11.30am. We apologise to customers that experienced any inconvenience."

Vodafone also updated its network status page, which now reflects the above timeframe.
