Data centre operator NextDC (ASX:NXT) has announced a project to deploy what will be Asia-Pacific's first Isolated Parallel Bus (IP-Bus) uninterruptible power supply.
NextDC has contacted power protection company Piller to deploy a Diesel Rotary Uninterruptible Power Supply (DRUPS) system for its data centre in Port Melbourne, Victoria.
The design will use the IP-Bus configuration, which is in widespread use in use in the US. In such a configuration, multiple uninterruptible power supplies (UPS) are connected to a common bus, enabling load sharing as well as power regulation.
According to NextDC CEO Bevan Slattery, the system is scalable to up to 20 megawatts while also improving redundancy and flexibility.
He said the system was selected “after a comprehensive evaluation of various technologies.”
Piller Australia managing director Jonathan Davis said the collaboration with NextDC will be expanded in the future, to allow Pillar to use the Victorian deployment as a demonstration system for prospective customers in the APAC region.
NXT shares fell 1.19 per cent on Thursday to close at $1.660.
