Quickflix signs content deals for streaming service

Quickflix (ASX:QFX) has signed agreements with studios including Sony Pictures for its soon-to-be-launched movie streaming service, which will debut on Sony devices

Online movie rental company Quickflix (ASX:QFX) has taken a further stride towards the establishment of its streaming subscription service, securing content deals with some major Hollywood studios.

Quickflix announced on Wednesday that it had signed agreements with Sony Pictures Television, Warner Bros International, Lakeshore Entertainment, Content Media Corporation and Pinnacle Films.

Quickflix CEO Chris Taylor added that more such content arrangements with other studios and distributors are on the way.

News of the deals comes days after Quickflix revealed an agreement with Sony to provide the movie streaming service on the PlayStation Network.

The service will also appear on Sony's Bravia range of internet-enabled TVs, Blu-Ray players and home theatre centres, as a result of an earlier agreement with Sony.

Quickflix plans to commence the service by the end of the calendar year, and is referring to the launch as “imminent.” It will complement the company's existing DVD-by-mail business.

QFX shares grew 3.75 per cent on Wednesday at $0.083.
