The world’s first dual-core smartphone has arrived in Australia, with LG today launching the Optimus 2X.
The handset, available unlocked for $649, is one of the first mobile devices to have 7.1 multi-channel virtual surround sound, 1080p video recording and playback, as well as a dual-core CPU.
The device, which runs Android 2.2, will be available from Harvey Norman, with general manager of computers and communications, Ben McIntosh, saying the device will be appealing to local punters.

“The Optimus 2X, with its dual-core processor and range of cutting edge features, is very appealing to our customers who are always looking for the latest and best in technology,” McIntosh said.
“The LG Electronics - Harvey Norman relationship spans many different product areas and we are now looking at how we jointly deliver great smartphone products to market and take advantage of the growing consumer demand in this area.”
Open distribution of the handset will commence this month.
The launch comes as a new study indicates that smartphone devices will soon be moving to TV sets, and as IT managers are grappling with whether or not to have an iPad policy in their workplace.
