Optus goes for a few dollars more

Launches pre-paid 'Dollar Days' offer

Optus has unveiled a new initiative called Optus Dollar Days, a range of pre-paid offers which start from $1.

According to the Singtel (ASX:SGT) subsidiary, customers on the $1 a day plan can make as many standard national calls and send as many texts as they like to Optus mobile and fixed line customers.

For $2 a day, or $14 a week, customers can make unlimited standard national calls and texts. If they opt for the $3 a day deal, consumers have access to unlimited standard national calls and texts as well as access to unlimited mobile internet browsing within Australia. Optus has also set a maximum weekly cost of $15 on the latter plan, effectively making use on weekends free.

In addition, the Dollar Days offers include access to social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, eBay, and Foursquare within Australia.

Additional charges apply for some SMS content and international calls.

Optus consumer managing director, Michael Smith, said in a statement that customers won't pay anything on the days they don't use their phone.

“Pre-paid customers will set their own limits with no bills, no long-term contracts and no monthly commitments,” he said.

The company has launched the plans to tie in with pre-paid smartphones coming on to the market in the lead-up to Christmas.
