Android Market reaches Australia

Local developers can buy and sell applications

Australia is one of 20 countries added to the Android mobile application marketplace.

In a blog post, Android developer ecosystem Eric Chu said developers from 20 more countries can now sell paid applications on Android Market.

The support for Australian developers comes almost a month after Google mistakenly listed Australia as a supported country for paid apps. The support was quickly retracted, angering local developers.

Additionally, over the next two weeks, users in 18 additional countries will be able to purchase paid apps from the market.

"Since we launched Android and Android Market, we have seen the population of Android users and devices expand into many countries," the post reads.

"This widespread adoption has brought with it growing interest in Android Market’s support for the buying and selling of paid applications in these additional countries.

Support for paid application sales was also expanded to developers in 29 countries. The marketplace is available in 40 countries.
