NTT Australia offers BigAir fixed wireless

The telco will supply fixed wireless services in normally hard to reach areas

Australian wireless broadband supplier BigAir (ASX:BGL) has penned a deal to supply fixed wireless services to NTT Australia as part of the service provider's IP offering.

According to NTT Australia’s managing director, Yoshimasa Hashimoto, the agreement will provide NTT Australia’s global blue chip customers with more access service options, specifically in areas fixed wireless finds hard to reach.

BigAir chief executive officer, Jason Ashton, said fixed wireless as a corporate offering had outgrown its niche phase and was increasingly being deployed as a primary data link or redundancy backup in areas where no fixed wire service is available.

“Fixed wireless is gradually becoming a mainstream play, facilitating the day to day mission critical business applications of corporate customers,” Ashton said in a statement.

NTT Australia has placed its first fixed wireless service order with BigAir for a Sydney-based global customer as part of the agreement.

The news of the deal with NTT Australia comes after BigAir signalled aggressive plans for expansion across Australia.
