Telstra has finalised the upgrade of its symmetric business broadband network, known as Telstra Business Broadband (TBB) Ethernet.
The replacement to its previous Business DSL service now offers up to 10Mbps, up from 4Mbps, according to the telco.
Telstra hopes the new higher-speed service will drive complementary services offered by the company, such as IP telephony and video conferencing and increasingly, cloud-based software and backup and recovery services.
The telco is also pitching the upgraded service as a more cost-effective alternative to fibre for smaller sized businesses wanting higher speeds.
“Many of Australia’s SMEs are geographically dispersed, with branches in different regions and states,” Telstra Business executive director Brian Harcourt said in the telco's Exchange blog.
“TBB Ethernet means they can reliably run IT applications from a head office, rather than have to deploy equipment and send an IT person out to branch offices. “
