NEC Australia has launched a ‘data highway’ from its facilities within the Polaris and Mulgrave data centres, to customers in Australian metropolitan cities.
The highway will provide customers with remote electronic access to their data via a high capacity 100Mbits/sec link.
Delivered in partnership with Nextgen Networks, the data link will enable NEC to deliver data centre services to customers via Points-of-Presence (POP) in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Canberra.
Future speeds of the link include an upgrade to 1Gbits/sec and the inclusion of Adelaide and Perth POPs.
With the link, the company will also introduce a Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery Consulting (BC/DR) to help manage business risk related to the loss or unavailability of IT service or data.
NEC Australia Principal Consultant Gary Lowe said the launch of the link and new services was based on positive customer feedback of the NEC facilities within Polaris.
“For organisations that want to reduce risk and handle overflow of their data centre in a cost effective and seamless way, we believe NEC’s managed services offering and hosted data centre environment at Polaris is an attractive option, no matter where they are based,” Lowe said in a statement.
The expansion of the link follows the news in September that Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong could play host to new world-class data centres as part of investment plans by a joint venture group that includes the company behind the Polaris facility in Queensland.
