Tasmanian NBN Co appoints board

NBN progressing behind the scenes, according to the Tasmanian Premier

The Tasmania NBN Co Limited (TNBN Co) has been established to roll out and operate the National Broadband Network in Tasmania.

The TNBN Co, a wholly owned subsidiary of NBN Co, has also appointment its first four Board directors: Doug Campbell, Alison Terry, Jody Fassina and Greg McCann, who will be executive chairman.

A further three appointments will be announced in the near future, according to Tasmanian Premier, David Bartlett.

“The appointment of the Board shows that behind the scenes we are continuing to progress the roll out of what will be the most significant infrastructure project of the 21st Century," Bartlett said.

Aurora Energy and NBN Co will become joint shareholders of TNBN Co.

Work on the roll-out in Tasmania began in July 2009, with plans for new trenches to be dug from October and fibre connections to the first premises to be made in December. The first services are expected to be available by July 2010.

Doug Campbell was the founding group managing director and key architect of Telstra Country Wide and will, according to the Federal Government, bring significant telecommunications experience and expertise to the National Broadband Network project.

Alison Terry is formerly executive director, corporate affairs, at GM Holden, and has expertise in corporate affairs, government relations and management of legal and regulatory exposures as well as experience in financial management, marketing and international business operations.

Jody Fassina is a director of the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition and Trust and Chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee and brings experience in banking, finance, financial services and taxation issues.

Greg McCann is currently the managing director and principal at Excentor Group of Companies and has close to 25 years experience with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu as a systems integrator specialising in the implementation of enterprise applications. He holds non-executive chairman positions at MOKO.mobi, and Tel.Pacific.
