The National Museum of Australia (NMA) will modernise its entire IT infrastructure and services delivery processes to meet existing and future e-business and content requirements.
The NMA requires up to 800 hours of services annually to transform its IT shop, with chosen service provider will perform IT architecture activities as directed by staff within the Museum’s information technology and services business unit.
Among its objectives, the museum requires a services partner to maintain architecture documentation, develop roadmaps to migrate to new IT infrastructure, develop documentation for IT costing, and “review and advise on specific technologies as required, for example, virtual desktops, wireless, Linux (server/desktop), open source software, single sign-on, and remote access/VPNs”.
Any new service provider will be required to cooperate with the museum's existing outsourced ICT provider, ASG Group, which provides infrastructure management and support services.
The NMA also expects the service provider to contribute to its strategy and business objectives right down to the participation in change management board meetings.
The contract is for three years from July 2009.
Not unlike a large enterprise, the museum's existing IT infrastructure is quite diverse and includes Novell NetWare and Open Enterprise Server, GroupWise, ZenWorks, Microsoft Windows (desktop and server), Active Directory, Red Hat and SUSE Linux, VMware, CommVault, Brocade, EMC and Dell.
On the network there are HP ProCurve network switches, a Checkpoint firewall, a Squid proxy, and IPSwitch management software.
Other “desirable” skills and experience centre around IT Security, gateway infrastucture, VoIP, LAN/WAN network architecture, automated site disaster recovery, and datacentre design, including “green” technologies.
