Optus has announced it will offer naked DSL broadband, following the lead set by ISPs such as iiNet and Internode.

Naked DSL allows customers to have a broadband Internet connection without renting a traditional phone line. Previously, people looking for an Internet connection without phone line rental costs were forced to use cable or wireless broadband.

In addition to providing naked DSL, Optus is letting people bundle the service with a mobile service and save $10 per month.

Optus has also scratched the traditional 24-month contract period for certain plans and is offering them on a month-to-month basis — but this only applies to users who bundle the service with an Optus home phone.

“Naked broadband means customers can choose to have standalone broadband or they can bundle [it] with their mobile phone", said Optus' Michael Smith.

Until May 31 it will be possible to connect to Optus Naked DSL with a $0 set-up cost; 24-month contract plans start at $49.99 per month with an eligible Optus Post Paid mobile plan and 7GB data. Without a bundled mobile, the plan will cost $59.99 per month.

Optus also offers a 15GB plan for $69.99 per month and a 30GB plan for $109.99 per month. Both these plans are $10 cheaper if bundled with an eligible Optus mobile service on a 24-month contract or bundled with an Optus home phone on a month-to-month basis.
