Five months after its initial launch in the US, The Soc Exchange.com today announced an Australian version of its popular trading Web site.

Billed as a competitor to eBay, The Soc Exchange.com.au attempts to offer better security and minimal fees according to Australian entrepreneur and company founder Franco Lagudi. "Our business model enables us to provide all Australians with a superior quality selling platform that offers extensive user-friendly features, guarantees a positive user experience and has none of the complicated fee structures of other sites", Lagudi said today.

“Let’s face it, the retail landscape is extremely difficult”, Mr Lagudi said. “Internet users are more savvy than they’ve ever been and with the current economic situation, every last cent counts.”

Launched in the US in July, The Soc Exchange.com charges a flat rate of $US1 per month for users to sell products on its site. The Australian site provides the same service despite fluctuating currency exchange rates at $AU1 per month with no additional listing charges or selling commissions.

The site is an alternative to established local trading communities such as eBay, Trading Post and OZtion.com.au, all of which offer shifting rates and percentage fees for listing and selling items. The Soc Exchange.com.au instead allows users to sell as much as they like for the flat fee. The site also offers the same service for $10 a year.

The Soc Exchange.com.au also allows users to create personalised Web sites as a virtual store from which to sell their items. The same ability is available on competing Web sites, but The Soc Exchange.com.au offers this as standard for all users without any additional cost. Users can also sign up for e-mail alerts and customer tracking, maintain a blog and search for fellow sellers based on location.

The Soc Exchange.com.au supports various payment methods including credit card, cheque, cash bank transfer or using the eBay-owned PayPal.
