Neverfail cuts server failover down to size

Delayed rather than instant resume mode.

Neverfail has introduced an entry-level Replicator product, based on its Continuous Availability Suite, with delayed rather than instant server failure recovery.

The Replicator product replicates data from a primary physical or virtual server to a secondary server via a local or wide area network link. It uses asynchronous replication between servers and only replicates data changes to increase efficiency. The product monitors primary server activity and, if it detects a failure, causes an automatic failover to the secondary server.

When the failed server is operational again then the data on the secondary server can be replicated back to it so that it can resume its application role.

Following an outage, an application may need to be restarted or recovered, and users may have to be reconnected. Neverfail Replicator can use customized scripts to configure the application failover process and automate tasks such as application restart.

In contrast with products from competitors such as Double-Take and CA's XOsoft, the company asserts that:-

  • Neverfail Replicator actively monitors the server environment including both the hardware and operating system, and there is always a redundant copy of the data online and available for use
  • Neverfail Replicator is lower in price than equivalent products from Double-Take and XOsoft
  • Neverfail Replicator supports seamless synchronization back to the primary server.
Neverfail Replicator is priced at US$4250 per server pair. A virtual machine counts as a server and needs a licence. Double-Take Windows Storage Server Edition is priced at US$2,646 per server pair. The company licences virtual machines in groups, with ten costing US$2,495.

Double-Take's product has a 'fail back' function to recover data back to a repaired host server. Neverfail asserts that Replicator's architecture allows movement of workload seamlessly back and forth between systems.
