PlateSpin enhances virtualization management

Adds support for chargeback of resources and enhanced manageability.

PlateSpin on Tuesday announced a new version of its data center planning and analysis software that adds support for chargeback of resources and enhanced manageability.

The software, PowerRecon 3.1 Virtual Infrastructure Edition, which works with VMware virtual infrastuctures, is designed to manage both physical and virtual servers. It provides the IT administrator visibility into the growth of virtual machines and automates the chargeback reporting so IT can accurately bill organizations for their resource use. Using PowerRecon, customers can eliminate virtual machine sprawl, automate chargeback and reduce the cost of managing their IT infrastructure.

PowerRecon Virtual Infrastructure Edition now includes enhanced reporting that identifies virtual machines in the enterprise and monitors their growth. With the chargeback feature, IT can track, assign or report on costs and allocate those charges to business units based on their actual disk, CPU or network consumption.

PowerRecon is now also integrated with VMware VirtualCenter to provide improved data center management. IT can obtain an inventory of virtual hosts on a scheduled basis, and capture the contents of a virtual machine.

PlateSpin PowerRecon 3.1 Virtual Infrastructure Edition is available at US$295 per server CPU socket.
