Mitel hires new Victorian sales manager

Vendor seeks to bolster its regional presence to provide better support for local dealers

IP telephony vendor, Mitel, has expanded its local channel support team by appointing Steven Comerford as its Victorian sales manager.

Country manager, Gwilym Funnell, said the newly created role was a part of regional plans to spread staff across various geographies.

"What this is allowing us to do is give direct support to the dealers. It's all about being there with their customers and helping them close the sale," he said. "We've also got people that look after WA, SA and NT, and all up we now have 16 staff, which is quite a considerable change from four years ago when there were only two of us."

Comerford will be charged with supporting its dealer channel as well as its customers. One of Mitel's biggest partners in Melbourne is Telstra Business Systems.

"At first, Steven will focus on the existing dealer channel and make sure they have all the right tools for their business," Funnell said. "We're focused on growing our business in that region and we want to make sure we have the right balance of dealers in the right place."

Comerford was previously a product manager for Telstra Business Systems and has also held roles at Ericsson and NEC.
