Westmead Children's Hospital sign with Lexmark

Patient safety measures installed

Printer manufacturer Lexmark has signed a five-year contract with Westmead Children's Hospital to supply 260 printers and multifunction devices as part of an effort to improve patient safety.

The printers will be used to produce a new wave of patient identification which includes designing colour photos and barcodes for patient wristbands to assist in identification and errors minimization.

Westmead Children's Hospital has used Lexmark equipment for the past five years. During that time, the hospital claims it has seen print infrastructure costs drop by 33 percent, the number of copy and print devices halve, and has reduced service vendors from 10 to two.

Westmead Children's Hospital IT projects and business planning unit manager Michael Dickinson said the contract will help the hospital improve patient care.

"Lexmark has invested time and effort into understanding our specific needs and providing recommendations that fulfil them," Dickinson said. "Our goal is to discover ways to better care for our patients, and Lexmark continues to work with us in achieving that goal."

Lexmark managing director for Australia and New Zealand Gary Cox said the hardware will also improve workflow processes such as patient admissions and pharmacy requests.

"Our partnership with The Children's Hospital has been a very rewarding experience and together we have successfully reduced the hospital's costs," Cox said.

"We are very pleased the hospital has extended its partnership with Lexmark and we look forward to helping them further improve their patient care and productivity."
