Reflex Security this week plans to announce a higher-speed, intrusion-prevention system appliance as well as its foray into host-based IPS software for desktops and servers.
The Atlanta company is scheduled to introduce two new appliances: the 5Gbps MG5 and 10Gbps MG10. They'll boast the same monitoring and blocking capabilities of the earlier 1Gbps offerings from Reflex, and will be manageable via the same console.
The MG5 will cost approximately US$180,000 and the MG10 will cost US$320,000.
As for its new host-based products, Reflex announced plans to deliver by the second quarter of next year software that protects Windows desktops and servers. Pricing has not yet been determined.
Reflex specializes in stand-alone IPS rather than a unified threat-management appliance that combines IPS, firewall, and antivirus or other security protections. In that regard, it competes most directly against vendors TippingPoint (a division of 3Com), Internet Security Systems and McAfee .
In its decision to enter the market for software-based IPS, Reflex is likely to compete against another set of vendors, including Sana Security , Determina and eEye Digital Security.
