AMD country manager steps down

AMD has parted company with its A/NZ country manager, John Robinson, after four years.

Sources close to the chipmaker claim his departure is part of a massive company restructure.

Robinson declined to comment on this claim.

He said a joint statement would be issued by AMD shortly.

In an interim statement to ARN, AMD said Robinson had left the company to pursue other interests.

“The terms of John's departure were mutually agreed between AMD and John and it is not appropriate to disclose details," the statement said.

Robinson had led the subsidiary since 2000, building the business and overseeing the Australian launch of arguably the company’s most important development, its 64-bit processor.

“John was well-respected and we appreciate the contribution he made to the company's growth in Australia and New Zealand,” the statement read. “We wish him the best of luck.”

AMD had not decided on a replacement for Robinson, but said current AMD pacific sales director, Kelvin Kwok, would act as country manager until the role was formally filled again.
