CA Extends Its Services Plans with LDA Buy

Computer Associates this week announced it is continuing its aggressive acquisition strategy in the services arena with the purchase of LDA Systems, an information management consulting company that specializes in client/server, mainframe, midrange, and Internet technologies.

All of LDA's 300 employees will join CA. The 20-year-old LDA, with 1997 revenues of US$25 million, has sustained annual growth rates of 35 percent during the past three years, according to CA officials.

The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

CA earlier this year made an attempt to purchase Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC). However, the bid to acquire the company was rejected by CSC's corporate leadership and subsequently degenerated into an acrimonious war of words. CA let its offer expire in mid-March.

Since then, CA has pursued a strategy of growing its professional services staff through smaller acquisitions.

In August, the company announced the purchase of Cleveland-based ReaLogic for an undisclosed amount. ReaLogic is a consulting company that specializes in enterprise networking, application development, and systems integration.CA said at the time that it was the first in a series of planned acquisitions to broaden the scope of its newly formed Global Professional Services group.
