LAN Systems logistics unit saves AAPT $34K

AAPT is planning to enlist service provider, HotStage Logistics (HSL) for future networks it has coming online, following a successful project with the LAN Systems business unit earlier this year.

According to Keith Maher, AAPT's national implementation manager, corporate government, HSL saved AAPT more than $34,000 and 1,800 hours by configuring, storing and delivering Cisco routers to Victorian schools as past of AAPT role's in the VicOne Network project. Maher said the project took place between January and March this year.

Maher said AAPT was faced with a daunting task of ensuring around 1700 schools throughout Victoria were equipped with the necessary equipment to connect to the VicOne network.

"It would not have been cost-effective for us to send network engineers to remote locations throughout Victoria to configure all of the routers," Maher said.

"When LAN Systems approached us with its HSL service, we quickly realised an opportunity that would help us complete this vital part of the project in a manner beneficial to both AAPT and our customer, the Victorian Board of Education."

Maher said AAPT considered alternate service providers as well as an in-house team, but HSL's offer was too good to resist.

According to Maher, HSL's role included powering up the routers, basic configuration and final configuration after installation as well as ensuring the equipment was delivered was delivered on time or early. This gave AAPT more time to devote to its designing and implementing the network, he said.

"Very pleased" with HSL efforts during the project, Maher said AAPT is planning to "use HSL again in a similar role" for other large networks in the future.
