Gartner Group still to decide on Hayward replacement

Gartner Group has yet to decide on a replacement for departing Asia Pacific research centre director Bob Hayward. It is conducting interviews now that concentrate on candidates within Gartner's worldwide organisation rather conducting an external headhunt, said Asia Pacific marketing vice president John Barrow.

Hayward, who has headed the 80-staff research centre in Brisbane for about four years, is leaving next month to pursue interests in electronic commerce and industry development.

With Tangent Australia founder Rick Anstey, Hayward has formed Corby Group, an organisation aiming to dispense strategic advice and venture capital to small IT companies.

Corby Group will also focus on attracting inward investment from large multinationals in areas such as call centres.

Hayward said he hoped his new company's links to sources of venture capital in the US would benefit the future of IT in Australia.

"There is no shortage of wealthy people in the US IT industry who are looking at planting money back into the industry."

Apart from Corby, Hayward said he was pursuing business initiatives related to the Asian manufacture of computer and e-commerce systems.
