TNZ and AAPT jump into e-procurement

Telecom NZ and AAPT have signed e-procurement licensing agreements with US software provider Ariba to allow businesses to buy and sell goods and services over the Internet.

David Glavonjic, AAPT's connect.com.au chief executive officer said the two companies would work together with as much combined infrastructure as possible to provide a "Trans-Tasman" solution to customers.

AAPT's business-to-business e-commerce provider, connect.com.au, and Telecom's XTRA, New Zealand's largest ISP, will provide the access infrastructure for businesses.

Glavonjic said by using the e-procurement solution, businesses marketing goods and services, will be able to lower transactions costs and target new online customers.

"For those looking to buy, the benefits are lower procurement costs, lower transactions costs and less spent on inventory carrying costs," he said.

According to officials, Ariba's Network service and ORMX applications will be used by AAPT and Telecom to manage their own purchasing and trading.

Telecom owns around 80 per cent stake of AAPT.

Telstra and Cable & Wireless Optus announced similar e-procurement deals earlier this year.

Telstra's solution combines procurement application technology from Intelisys with Telstra's Open Commerce Platform, while CWO has partnered with Commerce One for its business to business solution.
