The ACS has announced the appointment of Dennis Furini as its new Executive Director, with responsibility for steering the Society into the next millennium and beyond.
Mr Furini brings with him extensive management experience from a career that has spanned senior positions in large corporate and multinational organisations as well as building and running a successful small business. He fills the vacancy left when former ACS Chief Executive Officer Arthur Dyster moved to refocus on his consulting business. Meanwhile, Dyster is continuing his long association with the ACS in a consulting capacity.
A recognised performer with demonstrated leadership and change management skills, Furini has spent the past 10 years with Sydney Water and its subsidiary, Australian Water Technologies, including several years as General Manager of its Information and Communications Services Division.
In September last year he was asked to take over as General Manager Retail to manage the business after the water crisis, and then at the beginning of May he was appointed Group Manager, Commercial Asset Strategy, with responsibility for optimising and rationalising use of the Corporation's extensive real estate holdings.
A long-term supporter of the Society, Dennis was made an ACS Fellow last year and is excited at the opportunity to help drive the Society forward.
"Through a combination of installing the member (customer) first and a market-driven culture, visionary leadership, excellent people skills and a systematic approach to reform, I believe I can make a significant contribution in helping to build the ACS to be . . . a professional society that is relevant to the IT&T industry, academia and the Australian community'," he said.
