HP teams with Yahoo on corporate service

Yahoo and Hewlett-Packard yesterday announced an agreement to distribute Yahoo's programming and services for corporate clients.

Corporate My Yahoo is meant to help corporations build customised employee hubs allowing access to corporate electronic services through a new interface.

Corporate My Yahoo offers its customers one consistent interface to retrieve not only internal corporate information but also personal and broad-based information, said Jeff Mallett, Yahoo president and chief operating officer. The service, which begins today, will offer an efficient way of managing information, officials said.

The personalised interface is expected to enhance employee productivity by offering external and internal content and services tailored to the specific needs of each user.

The customised and personalised interface meets the needs of individuals and companies, and the combined power of Yahoo and HP will allow corporate and IT executives to work faster and better, said Joe Beyers, vice president and general manager of HP's Internet Business Unit.

The service, aimed at helping companies overcome information glut and slow access to data, will be customised to allow users at work to access personal information as well as information unique to their job function, Beyers said. A user can access information such as stock quotes, investment data, travel reservations or order tracking services.

HP expects to offer Corporate My Yahoo licences as a pay-as-you-go service on the internet that will enable companies to build and deploy applications strategic to their businesses. The standard pricing for the service has not been announced, but Yahoo and HP said that they will start off with customised pricing.

The new service will combine the functions of Yahoo's interface and HP's Internet technology, including a behaviour-based profiling feature; personalisation technology; and enterprise-application interface technology.

Corporate My Yahoo users will have access to all of Yahoo's 13 member services, including e-mail, instant messaging, calendar, travel reservations and ticket purchases.
