An Australian chapter of the global application service provider (ASP) Industry Consortium was formed ton Tuesday, joining more than 700 other members in 30 countries across five continents.
The new chapter plans to educate and increase market awareness in Australia and develop best practices.
Paul Gleeson, Unisys Australia ASP business director, said the ASP industry needs to establish a stronger, more credible presence locally.
"Through the creation of standards, certifications, ratings and categories for ASPs we aim to move the industry from hype and failures to successful reality," he said.
Australian members of the global advocacy group include: Unisys Australia; Cable & Wireless Optus; Wyse; Onyx; Hewlett-Packard Australia; Citrix Systems Asia Pacific; ApplicationStation.Com; Gilbert and Tobin; Qi; MultiEmedia; National Payroll Systems; PeakHour ASP Services; Comtech Central; Brocker Technology Group; and BMC Software Australia.
The Australian chapter will establish a self-regulation framework, manage research projects and market analysis and promote the merits of ASP services to government and business.
