CSC acquires GECITS

CSC is acquiring the Australian operations of GE Capital Information Solutions (GECITS), in a move which will create a $1 billion IT services organisation.

The announcement stems from an international $300 million, 10-year outsourcing agreement between CSC and GE Capital announced yesterday.

CSC is acquiring GECITS's customers and 800 permanent staff and 200 contractors for an undisclosed amount, a spokesperson from CSC said.

The merged organisation, with staff of 3500, will have a much broader range of services and larger customer base, according to the spokesperson.

GE Capital ITS's strong skills in the product supply chain, desktop and ERP spaces will transform CSC to a "full scope services provider", the spokesperson said.

"Desktop, in Australia, is a huge opportunity area.

"In a short period of time, CSC will be the strongest desktop [services] company in Australia," she said.

George Bell, CSC managing director, will become managing director and CEO of the combined organisation, which will continue to be known as CSC.

According to the spokesperson, CSC will continue to acquire and form new partnerships.

As an extension of the international outsourcing agreement, in which CSC is managing GE Capital's mainframe and midrange data processing operations in Europe, the organisation will also manage some GE Capital data processing operations in Australia.
