CSC teams up with CWO

Solutions provider Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has announced a $500 million strategic partnership with telecommunications company Cable & Wireless Optus (CWO).

The telco will provide communications infrastructure products to support CSC's professional services and outsourcing businesses in Australia.

Donna Bullock, CSC's marketing director said CWO was chosen after a tender process because it meets CSC's current and future needs, is flexible and cost effective and gives access to leading edge technology.

"We determined they were capable of delivering the flexibility and forward technology we require," she said. "There's a high degree of synergy between what we want to do and what they are able to do."

The partnership, which is for a five year period with the option to extend to 11 years, is expected to be worth more than half a billion dollars.

CSC is one of the world's largest providers of IT professional services to corporates and governments, including AMP, Energy Australia, the Department of Immigration and Ethnic Affairs and the Australian Electoral Commission.

Bullock said the company provides a range of tailored solutions, from e-business to systems infrastructure, to help clients to be more successful in business.

"It's a whole raft of services," Bullock said. "Underpinning all those things are the internal telco requirements, both for our company internally and for the services we provide for our customers. Obviously technology changes but the important thing is that we have access to the new technology so we can include that in the bundle for our customers. It's a win/win situation."

The two companies are currently negotiating the final details of the agreement, which is expected to become effective in January 2000.
